I’m sure you are very excited about your baby’s upcoming birth!  Well that’s very normal because a baby is a miracle of life and should be the product of the love two people have for each other.  Part of that excitement will be reflected in the thought and work you put in to creating your baby’s nursery.

As you  make the appropriate preparations for your child’s birth,  one of the  first decisions you make will be choosing from among the many baby cribs that are available.  And choosing the right baby crib boils down to two very essential features – safety and security. Considerations of budget, colors, and style will come in as close seconds.  It’s great to buy a crib that you like, but it is your baby who will be spending a lot of time there.  So as much as you want your nursery to be beautiful and coordinated, never put your child’s safety or comfort in second place.

Here are some tips:

• The slats should be spaced so as to avoid entrapment of small hands and feet.
• The sides should be of adequate height to prevent your baby from climbing out once he or she is old enough to attempt to do so.
• The sides should have non-toxic padding to prevent injuries caused by falling down in the crib.
• The crib must be of sufficient size to provide ample space to sleep and play in. The space in the nursery will also impact that crib size.
• The mattresses must be chosen with your baby’s health and safety in mind.

Check over the construction. For example, there are designs of cribs baby furniture that have drop-down sides. Other designs have different components that can be adjusted. These features can be fine conveniences, but check things over very carefully to be sure none of these moving parts presents and safety hazards.
